History of our club

Northampton Croquet Club was founded in 1986 and played in Becket’s Park Northampton. Conditions were primitive with two overlapping lawns, neither full size. We paid by the hour, car parking was costly and play depended on finding the groundsman, invariably at lunch.

We then moved to in front of St. Andrew’s Hospital in 1992, where we had two lawns, a small wooden club house and later an equipment shed. Two lawns were added after a few years, allowing us to play throughout the year. In December 2019 we were given notice to leave St Andrew’s.

There was croquet played at St Andrew’s in Victorian times

The club moved to a beautiful site in Roade, behind the bowls club in 2022 where we now have four lawns.

The Charity Commission approved our application for charitable status in October 2020.
